Pelosi’s Do Nothing Congress Tries to Put Oil Reserves Off Limits for Good
By Dan | September 17, 2008
The House has passed an “offshore drilling” bill that will “expand” our energy supply.
The measure, which was approved 236-189, would allow states to authorize drilling 50 to 100 miles from their coasts. The federal government would be allowed to approve drilling 100 to 200 miles from shore.
The problem is that 95% of known offshore oil resides within 50 miles of the coast. This bill effectively blocks productive offshore drilling. Pelosi admits that she doesn’t want to increase America’s supply of oil.
Pelosi portrayed her plan as a balanced one that did not rely solely on drilling but encouraged the country to look for energy alternatives.
“It is time for an oil change in America,” she said. “Republicans must set aside their drill-only mentality and embrace the provisions of this legislation, which is balanced, which is comprehensive, which respects the needs of the consumer.”
Republicans want a comprehensive approach. They want alternatives but they also want to remove restrictions placed on American energy supplies. Pelosi and the do nothing Democrats want us to be dependant on foreign oil so they can use it in an election.
*update* Michelle Malkin points out Pelosi’s ignorance on natural gas.
