Election Projection

Does He Mean it?

By Dan | June 17, 2008

McCain has been tone deaf on many issues in this campaign, not the least of which has been opening up our oil reserves to exploration. Today he is set to give a speech in which he calls for the opening up of coastal drilling. He finally seems to be getting it, Americans don’t like high energy prices.

It is about time someone got to him and told him how huge this issue is in this campaign. I was beginning to wonder if Obama was going to out-flank him on this issue. It would have hurt Obama with the environmental lobby, but they are getting smaller everyday as the price of gas goes up. Besides, Democrats have already admitted that they don’t mean what they say in elections, they just say what they have to in order to win.

So that raises the question, is McCain serious or is he just playing along to get our votes? Opening up exploration is the right thing to do and it is an issue that will be critical in November. McCain can make a compelling case on this, the key is getting the voters to believe him.
