Warner-Lieberman Cap and Trade Scheme Blocked

By Dan | June 6, 2008

Michelle Malkin has the story on the bill failing in the senate 48-36.

In the Wall Street Journal Stephen Moore argues that this bill has cost the environmentalists political momentum:

Backers of the Warner-Lieberman cap-and-trade bill always knew they would face a veto from President Bush, but they wanted to flex their political muscle and build momentum for 2009. That strategy backfired. The green groups now look as politically intimidating as the skinny kid on the beach who gets sand kicked in his face.

The best news in Moore’s piece is that he sees McCain listening to reason:

Even John McCain, a cap-and-trade original co-sponsor, now says that this scheme won’t fly until China and India sign on – which could be never.

If this is true it means that we have a Presidential candidate who may not entirely destroy the economy. Imagine that, our economy saved by pollution in India.
